NWT Official languages
The Official Languages of the Northwest Territories are:
- Chipewyan
- Cree
- English
- French
- Gwich’in
- Inuinnaqtun
- Inuktitut
- Inuvialuktun
- North Slavey
- South Slavey
- Tlicho
Each Official Language has a geographical area or areas where it is commonly used. As such, the GNWT has developed “designated areas” in the Official Languages Policy and Guidelines, and the GNWT can provide services in the Official Language(s) of that area.
